July - September 2004 Progress Report

A Message from Our Mayor Bryan J. Baptiste
October 2004

The winter season is near, evident by the increasing height of the ocean swells, the twinkle of holiday lights that will soon don our windows and the overall feeling of merriment that seems to fill the air during the holidays. This is also a time to celebrate the spirit of giving, a characteristic of our beautiful Kaua`i that has been perpetuated through the years.

It is with the warmest mahalo that I acknowledge the efforts of those who have supported the Kaua`i Aloha Endowment, as well as those who will celebrate this season of giving with a contribution to the Endowment.

This is the season when we reflect on the past, while we look to the future. And our future, as we strive for economic prosperity, is dependent on the actions we take today. The Endowment gives us that opportunity to create a more beautiful and thriving Kaua`i for our children, our future.

On behalf of the County of Kaua`i, mahalo for your support of the Kaua`i Aloha Endowment, which helps us to perpetuate our island’s Aloha Spirit for generations to come. With your support, Kaua`i’s spirit of giving will glow, a candle in our community window.

Aloha pumehana,

Aloha—The Joy of Service in Action

New brochure nears completion. In October members of the Kaua`i Aloha Endowement volunteer team reviewed the nearly-finished new brochure beautifully designed by Tsunami Marketing in Kalaheo. Stephanie Reid, who performed exceptionally as liaison with Tsunami to brainstorm text and photo content, presented the stunning brochure to the group. The 8.5” x 8.5”, eight-page booklet will be thick paper stock throughout and the metallic-colored cover will sport an embossed image of Kaua`i island. It fuses key Hawaiian sayings with our Endowment philosophy and touching photos of Kaua`i’s children—our island’s future stewards—and Kaua`i’s magnificent landscape in a elegantly understated layout. Special thanks to Stephanie Reid of the Endowment and Melissa McFerrin of Tsunami Marketing for their close collaboration on this project, and also to Kaua`i photographer Tim DelaVega for volunteering a special photo shoot to achieve the right imagery for this brochure. After a bit more editing, the next step for the brochure is to raise funds to print 5,000 copies.
