April to June 2003 Progress Report

A Message from Maryanne Kusaka
Mayor, County of Kaua`i, 1994-2002

It was a brilliant, clear day, one so characteristic of Kaua`i in mid-summer. Several hundred of us gathered in Wailua to witness and celebrate the progress that’s been made on the Hindu Ashram there. It was a time for reflection, remembrance and gratitude.

The gardens are even more beautiful than we all remembered, and set in our pathway to the temple site stood a lone, delicate lotus blossom that appeared especially for the occasion. It was a wonderful welcome indeed.

Several speakers acknowledged our community partnerships over the past seven years since our initial encounters with our beloved Gurudeva. It was noted that through his powerful influence and involvement we have been able to address several pressing community needs. In partnership we have embraced the spirit of aloha as our island vision, created a startling awareness of drug abuse in our schools, and learned the lasting value of endowments. Thus was born the Kaua`i Aloha Endowment.

Yes, we reflected on and remembered all that has been accomplished and indeed we are always in gratitude for Kaua`i, for the glorious beauty of nature and for partnerships such as the Kaua`i Aloha Endowment.

Aloha pumehana,

We express our gratitude to our Board of Advisor member Mayor Maryanne Kusaka for her inspiring, expanding and informative messages over the past two years.

Aloha—The Joy of Service in Action

“Giving never moves in a straight line,it always travels in circles”

This newsletter is focused on Gratitude each day and each step of the way. Having an attitude of gratitude is a choice the Endowment embraces in the unfoldment of our Vision. It allows the process to expand and becomes even more than we imagined.
From our Vision comes form and service to our Kauaian community and a way to create financial self-sufficiency and sustainability for our island. We hold the Island-Wide Vision, Aloha It’s Kaua`i’s Spirit, in view as we move forward toward achieving the Purpose and Vision.
We are in gratitude for our Board of Advisors, Intention Group and Committees, Founding Friends and Contributing Friends—both financial and in-kind service, Corporate and Community Sponsors. Thank you all for your support of the Kaua`i Aloha Endowment’s Vision of our Kauaian community endowing itself.
If you are one who deeply loves Kaua`i and values its unique treasures in the Spirit of Aloha, please share the message by inviting others into our growing Ohana. The Kaua`i Aloha Endowment provides a way to express your gratitude, your heartfelt “Mahalo” to this magical tropical island.
