January - June 2006 Progress Report

A Message from Our Mayor Bryan J. Baptiste
July, 2006

The Aloha! The Garden Island of Kaua`i is a truly special place. Residents are fortunate to call this island “home” and visitors from all over the world look forward to their Kaua`i vacations.

Maintaining Kaua`i as the gem that it is requires the preservation of its beauty and culture. The Kaua`i Aloha Endowment strives to promote the aloha spirit of our people and invest resources to benefit the Kaua`i community today, tomorrow and forever. But we must all recognize the treasure we have in Kaua`i and do our part to perpetuate its glory.

On behalf of the County of Kaua`i, mahalo for your contribution ‘To Protect, Preserve and Enhance Kaua`i’s Island Treasures... Today, Tomorrow and Forever.’

Aloha pumehana,

Our Purpose

Recognition

Kaua`i Aloha Endowment appreciates the continued support of the staff of the Hawai`i Community Foundation, in particular Deborah Rice of the Kaua`i office of HCF with the guidance of the President and CEO, Kelvin Taketa.

Aloha—The Joy of Service in Action

Hawaii Community Foundation’s Officer for Kaua`i, Nani Larsen, retired in late 2005. A generous mahalo for her many years of service, in particular helping the Kaua`i Aloha Endowment get established as a fund at HCF. Deborah Rice is HCF’s new Officer for Kauai and brings much experience from her previous work with a community foundation on the mainland. In late June we had a special meeting facilitated by Amy Luersen, HCF’s Senior Program Officer for Education and Community Building. She skillfully guided the Advisors to develop more specific guidelines for the 2006 version of the Kaua`i Aloha Endowment Fund Request Application which will be mailed to nonprofits in September. Grant proposals will be reviewed in December.
